Our Essay Professor series was created to provide you with a step-by-step approach for tackling the essays in your MBA application.
To design our Essay Professor courses, we assembled a team of experienced admissions consultants and studied the application essay questions of the most popular MBA programs. We identified the essay questions that appear across applications every year and created this series to teach you how to write essays that are truly outstanding.
The Essay Professor Series doesn't provide the quote-unquote right" answer to the application essay questions because there is no such thing. Instead, we provide you with a proven approach that top admissions consultants use to help their clients create outstanding essays.
Your Essay Professor Course begins with Essay Writing 101, an overview of the essay writing process. From there, you will learn an innovative technique for choosing your best stories.
We've created five separate courses, each one devoted to one of the classic" MBA essay questions. The process of writing your essays and using these lectures begins with categorizing your essay questions into one of these five types using our Essay Classification system.
In each Essay Professor lecture, you will learn the difference between a poor essay and an outstanding one via the criteria we've assembled into the Essay Professor Scoring Chart. You can use the scoring chart to decide what to write about and to judge the quality of your drafts along the way.
You will also be given a set of Content Building Blocks for crafting a unique and powerful response of your own.
Finally, in the self-study materials, you will be able to download the scoring chart, building block templates, and an example of an effective essay. You'll use these resources to draft, score, and rewrite your essays.
Now, I'll introduce you to the five classic" MBA essay questions and tell you more about the Essay Professor process, beginning with our Essay Classification System.
Begin by categorizing your essays into one of the five classic types, using our Essay Classification System. The five classic types are:
--Leadership Story Essays
--Why Our School", and
--What Will You Contribute" Essays
After categorizing your essays proceed to the videos devoted to the essays you are working on.
In the self-study materials for this video, you can download a copy of the Classification System. Please pause the video and download this file now ... Remember, not all your essays will fit into one of the five classic types – but many of them will.
Once you've classified your essays for the schools you are applying to you can proceed to the relevant Essay Professor lecture, The five lectures are titled by essay type.
The lectures begin with a general overview of this type of Essay Question and then proceed to an Essay Scoring Chart that summarizes the characteristics of a poor answer as compared with an outstanding one.
You will use the Essay Professor Scoring Chart™ in two important ways:
First, you will use the scoring chart to choose your strongest essay topics. When it comes to writing an essay this is the most important choice you will make.
Once you've selected your essay topic, you will use the Scoring Chart at each stage of your writing process from outline to final draft to objectively evaluate where your draft falls on the spectrum from poor" to outstanding." Your analysis will guide you on how you can improve your next draft. Keep rewriting until you've created an essay that you deem to be outstanding."
The third element of each Essay course is a set of Content Building Blocks that you can use to craft a unique and powerful response to your essay questions.
You will use the Content Building blocks in each lecture to create the content for your own answers. We will even show you an example of how an MBA Prep School student assembled his or her content building blocks to create a great answer.
From there the fun really begins -- you'll draft, score, and rewrite your essay until you, and others you chose to share it with, feel that the is quality is outstanding.
