Adam

Adam is an MBA graduate of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and an MPA graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

While at Kellogg, Adam was a Carl I. Johnson Fellow, active in several student clubs, and concentrated his coursework in Finance, Management, and Strategy. While at Harvard, he served as a course and research assistant in the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, and his concentrations included Business & Government Policy, Management and Leadership, and International Affairs. During this time, he also gained private equity and early-stage startup experience, giving him valuable and complementary experiences in both seeking and distributing investment capital.

Following graduate school, Adam joined McKinsey & Company as a strategic management consultant; his work there spanned a range of clients in the public, non-profit, and private sectors (including oil and gas, tech, and industrials) and crossed various functional disciplines (including organizational design, talent management, operations, and implementation). These projects helped to further hone his coaching and communication/messaging skills as he supported senior clients through large-scale change management efforts within their organizations.

Prior to graduate school, Adam was an accomplished member of the US national security community where he served in various capacities and locations around the world for close to a decade, earning a number of professional commendations for his work. His broad range of assignments and interdisciplinary training exposed him directly to critical foreign affairs and international security issues, afforded unique insights into behavioral analysis and psychological assessment, and provided him with substantive experience in program management, operational planning, and risk assessment. He regularly drafted reporting and briefed senior government officials on his work, giving him extensive experience in crafting impactful, carefully worded documents with significant space and time constraints.

In his undergraduate studies, Adam graduated cum laude with Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Engineering and Liberal Arts / Psychology and a minor in Mathematics; this foundation gave him the ability to clearly communicate complex topics and work effectively with those from both technical and non-technical backgrounds. While in school, he was part of his university’s campus honors program, a member of multiple honor societies, and active in his local fraternity chapter.

Throughout his academic and professional career, Adam has tutored, mentored, and coached others with an honest, direct, and holistic approach. Given his non-traditional and varied background, Adam connects easily with others regardless of their path but is also particularly well-matched with those who do not necessarily fit the standard MBA mold, including those with non-traditional backgrounds, those applying for joint-degree programs, those coming from or interested in the public/social sector, and those applying at an older than average age.

In his spare time, Adam focuses on spending time with friends and family, traveling, and keeping his professional networks active through regular outreach and membership in various associations.

Below are reflections from just some of Adam’s recent client success stories:

Accepted at Harvard Kennedy School and Yale School of Management

I began working with Adam at the very beginning of my graduate school application process. He helped me weigh the pros and cons of applying to graduate school through a thoughtful discussion on my long-term career ambitions balanced against the trade-offs associated with remaining in place at my previous employer.

Adam provided tailored guidance on which programs would best fit my professional background and ambitions as well as my personality and learning style. Adam’s in-depth knowledge of the top graduate programs was impressive and greatly assisted in focusing my application efforts. He also provided phenomenal guidance on how to study for the GMAT and prepare my application essays; as someone who was already a working professional with limited available free time to devote to graduate study, this help was invaluable. As a direct result of Adam’s thoughtful, realistic, and expert guidance, I am now attending the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Yale University School of Management, a feat that seemed outside the realm of possibility prior to my discussions with Adam!

Accepted to Kellogg and Columbia Business School

When I first connected with Adam, I was scrambling to finalize my application packet for a Round 2 deadline, which was less than a week away. Adam was extremely responsive to my request for help and, within a day, was able to prepare comprehensive edits to my three final essays. Within hours of receiving Adam’s edits, I was on a call with him reviewing every detail; he was able to give me both general guidance on approaching these essays as well as very specific, tactical recommendations on how to re-word and restructure the essays to make them more impactful. His patience and thoughtfulness made an otherwise overwhelming experience quite manageable. Adam was a first-year MBA student at the time, and he generously set aside other personal priorities to ensure I produced high-quality essays and still met my pending deadline. Not only did we make numerous changes throughout the essays, we completely shifted course on two of them and the strategy paid off — I was ultimately admitted to Kellogg (and later Columbia Business School)! I couldn’t offer a stronger endorsement of Adam and his abilities as an MBA admissions coach. Thank you again, Adam!

Accepted to Yale SOM and Harvard Kennedy School

As I was making the decision to apply to business school and public policy programs, Adam’s assistance was absolutely invaluable! He helped me figure out what exactly my strengths, passions, and weaknesses were and then helped me go beyond mere rankings to analyzing which institutions best suited my career and life goals. He also gave advice on how to best structure an essay that would highlight my strengths, passions, and experiences in order to complement a particular school and showcase how I could contribute meaningfully to the school’s culture.

Adam walked me through what a typical first year of an MBA and MPA program looks like, including where I should consider spending more or less time in order to draw the maximum amount of value from my experience. Specifically, he helped me consider how I should allocate my time between social events, recruiting sessions, classes, projects, professors, family, and entrepreneurial/extracurricular experiences. It was invaluable to hear some of his own personal stories so I had a clear idea of what to expect when starting school.

Adam was incredibly open to questions, allowing me to ask anything and everything I was curious about without fear of being judged in any way. He is an understanding individual and a fantastic listener which made it that much easier to share my questions and concerns with him. He will not tell you what you want to hear, but what you actually need to know, and he has the career perspective and process understanding to back it up.

Accepted to Northern Illinois University

Adam was a tremendous resource in my preparation for graduate business school admissions and for general career planning to meet my intended goals of getting an MBA. He helped me hone in on the post-MBA career path I was most interested in pursuing and assessing which business school programs might be a good fit for me. He knew the admissions requirements for several of the schools I was considering and helped with the entire admission process, from GMAT planning/studying to personal essay prep. When it came to the GMAT, Adam laid out a 6-month study plan for me to help build core quantitative and verbal skills and to practice for the exam in a way that gave me the confidence and speed needed to get a high score. What helped the most was that Adam had personally gone through all of these steps before and had a great feel and understanding for what schools were looking for in an applicant; with that, he was able to give me concrete, actionable guidance on how I could get through the GMAT and improve my overall application to help me stand out from the pack. I would highly recommend Adam in your pre-MBA planning and admissions preparation, you will not be disappointed.
